Team 5817 Volunteers at the Sanger Unified Robotics Showcase

Today, Sanger High School's gyms buzzed with excitement as hundreds of elementary and middle school students gathered for the annual Sanger Unified Robotics Showcase. This event, centered on the theme “Sanger Shipping Co.,” challenged its innovative participants to devise LEGO creations that could solve the problem: “What if you could ship cargo between multiple locations more quickly and efficiently?”

Sanger LEGO, a local youth robotics program supporting students in grades K-8, served as the backbone of the showcase. Each year, students are presented with a theme and tasked with creating a LEGO invention to address specific challenges, with the complexity increasing by age bracket. The program not only fosters creativity, but also builds foundational engineering skills and teamwork skills in young students.

The showcase featured three age divisions—Junior (K-4), Intermediate (5-6), and Senior (7-8)—with each group presenting their projects to a panel of judges. The event was organized and run by Uni-Rex students, who served as coordinators, judges, greeters, and activity directors, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for all.

While waiting to be judged, students had the opportunity to explore a Maker Space, featuring a variety of fun STEM activities. This interactive booth, also hosted by Uni-Rex, was designed to keep participants engaged and learning throughout the whole program.

The showcase concluded with an awards ceremony, recognizing the outstanding efforts of participants across all three divisions. Awards were given in several categories, including the Build Award, Create Award, Teamwork Award, and Amaze Award.

The Sanger Unified Robotics Showcase not only honored the dedication and creativity of these young engineers, but also underscored the valuable opportunities offered by the Sanger LEGO program. The program has become a cornerstone for early STEM education in the community, with many former Sanger LEGO students now excelling as Uni-Rex team members.

This event was a meaningful recognition of the commitment and talent of Sanger’s future innovators, and we are proud to have played a key role in making it possible.
